Compatible yarns for making a blanket

I want to make a blanket for someone very special to me, and am trying to work out what yarn to use.

I know from the remembrance blankets that Rowan Cashsoft DK and Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK can be mixed in a blanket, but why don't we use the baby versions of these yarns?

What other similar yarns could I use? Like the remembrance blankets, I want it to be soft, warm, washable and long-lasting.

And where are good places to buy yarn? (Especially at discount if possible!)

I think the baby versions are thinner so not compatible with the non baby versions.

Other than that, I can't help. My online purchases have been from black sheep and cucumber patch.

Do you know whether the baby versions of each of those yarns are comatible with each other?

What other yarns are suitable?

I am no expert at all but I can't see why not. I guess you have to read the label about the make up of the yarn and whether it looks the same.

I'm clueless TBH!

Check the composition of the yarns you want to use. As long as you have roughly the same amount of each "ingredient", they'll wash and wear equally.

So, you don't want to mix a 100% acrylic with a 50% wool 50% nylon blend. But different brands that are 50/50 will be compatible.

Merino, cashmere, angora mixes are good hard-wearing soft blends. You want a little bit of manmade in there to give it some stability, unless it's going to be a real special occasion job, in which case 100% angora or merino will give the best result...
