Quilting - where do I start?

Last time I did this I was doing my GCSEs, but I quite fancy having a go again. I keep seeing colour combinations that I would like to replicate in patchwork, so where is the best place for plain pieces in natural fabrics? E-bay seems to have lots of very busy floral stuff, but I want something simpler and a bit more eclectic. And what is the best website to remind me of the basics again?

I couldn't leave this unanswered MM. The Cottonpatch website is a good staring point if you want to shop online. You can buy pre-cut quilt kits or plain fat quarters (a pre cut piece of fabric measuring 18" x 22").

There are lots of lovely books on Cotton Patch and Amazon out now; perhaps you can ask Santa for an early chrissy pressie. Kaffe Fassett has a nice one and the Jane Brocket's Gentle Art of Quilt Making is a good book to get you started.

Fancy Moon has some unusual fabrics. Always use natural fabrics and wadding.

I'd suggest you start small and progress to bigger things. There are lots of sites with free patterns, or you could get a magazine such as Popular Patchwork, there are lots of internet shops listed in these too.
