Ladies who knit .... Looking for a pattern for chunky scarf

I looove this scarf and have set my heart on knitting similar. I've spent the last two days trawling the I ternet looking for a pattern for a chunky cable scarf. Can't find one! Closest I can get is this which isn't quite what I want. Do want to knit with wool as opposed to cotton or a mixed yarn.

So where would you recommend I look next please?

Thanks!

I always look in Ravelry. That's where I found this Two By Four Cabled Scarf which looks the same to me:

Millie - if it is this scarf that you really want, would you like me to write up the pattern for you... it is a really simple cable worked over nine stitches. Let me know and I will look at it properly this evening.

The pattern is in the pdf file
I wish I could do cablesEnvy

Thanks China and Latte. China nearly but not quite!! It needs to have rib between the cable pattern, I think. Latte how kind of you! I did a similar cable pattern quite a few years ago for a jumper which had a back, front and one sleeve before I ran out of wool .... the wool shop was in Australia and, by then, I was back in the UK! I've continued to look online and like the look of Rowan yarns. This number isn't too far away but is about 13cm narrower so wouldn't have the same chunky look. And for something which is just a straight knit, nuzzle.

I don't know what to do now Latte in light of your offer. It's a lot of trouble to ask you to go to and the first scarf I linked too is nice.

China you could cable!! I am not a great knitter but I bought a pattern, the needles and figured it out ... I just failed to complete it! Grin

OK, to make this easier I will PM you the pattern in the morning... it really is very easy... I will even suggest a wool and needles to make it up in. Seriously, it is not that hard to transcribe :)

GrinGrin You're a honey, thank you, thank you! I just have a real craving to knit! Please can it be a wool like Cocoon - nice and chunky and mostly, if not all, wool!! And if you don't get a chance tomorrow morning, please don't worry - whenever suits you is fine!! Thanks Latte!

Ooh Millie, I've just knitted a scarf in Cocoon and it knits beautifully. I used a fairly simple fisherman's rib so that pattern isn't what you are looking for but the feel of the finished article is lovely - very soft and very war. If you can find a pattern that works, I'd recommend Cocoon. Smile

Sounds lovely maclocver. What pattern did you use? I'm determine to knit something in Cocoon - it just looks gorgeous but meantime LatteLady has written up a pattern for my own version of the White Co scarf!!! It was sooo nice of her - thank you again!! - and I've just ordered wool so hope it arrives quickly. Am tempted, if I still have the bug, to do the Nuzzle Scarf I linked to above, next. It uses Cocoon. Only thing is that DT2 has seen me looking at knitting sites online and wants me to knit her a scarf - that should be a quick job! Sadly, we don't have any good wool shops nearby - about 40 miles for Rowan stockists - grrr!

Millie, I used this pattern. It knitted up beautifully and is very warm and soft.

I also use this supplier. They currently have 10% off Rowan wool until 17th, and free delivery if you spend over £20.00. Delivery is very quick.

Glad you have a pattern for the White Co scarf. What wool are you going to use?

Catsmamma · 14/11/2011 21:29

The only thing is with an ordinary cable pattern is that the reverse side will not match the front side

I have this pattern which is reversible apparently!!

I have not done it yet but I shall!

Thanks Maclover - that's a good offer and I might order some yarn. Love that scarf pattern - bt it's lovely and cosy!

Oooh Catsmama - hadn't considered that but hopefully it will be lovely anyway!! Like the pattern you linked to!!
