Quickutz alphabet

So , I have only had my sizzix for a week and already I have clocked up countless hours gazing at new dies!
Am very tempted by a quickutz alphabet- they seem very competively priced in comparison to sizzix as you get upper and lower case it seems. Has anyone else got one? Would it be better to pay out for a sizzix? Was thinking of using the £99 offer from here- scroll down to the bottom

Have you thought of the ALPHABARS from Sizzix. Same thick dies as the alphabet but 3 to a bar hence it's cheaper. I got mine for £35 plus £6 postage on Ebay- brand new. It was from this guy cheaper now as well

I've also got the numbers fro the doodle tag- paid about £40 for that as well

pootlepod - i love the look of a few qk alphas. have you seen the sizzlet alphas? they're economic as you get the upper, lower, numbers and punctuation(sp)too.

pixiefish - i will not look.......... oooops

hi yg

Pixiefish · 01/01/2006 20:42

Champs- the only thing with sizzlets alphabets is that because the dies are thinner then you can't cut through really thick card with them as easily as the thick dies. That's what I've found with sizzlets (not necessarily the alphabet but sizzlets in general) maybe it's something i'm doing but i much prefer the ordinary dies to thesizzlets

ChampsOnIce · 01/01/2006 20:53

yeah, i remember you were having probs. i can cut quite heavy card with mine. did the shim not work? i dont need to use a shim with mine but others have found they work

Pixiefish · 02/01/2006 09:04

I need to have another try then. I did put a shim on it- maybe I need to have 2 shims or a new cutting pad. I'd love to be able to use them properly as they are very modern and I do really like the designs but I have no confidence in using them

AuntyQuated · 02/01/2006 10:25

PF - i had exactly the same problems with my sizzlits. i felt like they were too low to cut all the way through even with the convertor,; JM suggested all sorts of things. i tried with a shim, with 2 shims, 3 shims, no shim!!! i resigned myself to only cutting with paper and bought a big Paper Mill shop box of paper then all of a sudden i seemed to get the hang of it. and now--- cuts everyhting first time + no shim! how? why? i don't know. so jsut keep persevereing and it may just happen. i don't know if i was doing something wrong and what i am doing right now so can't reealy help other than to say
keep trying

Pixiefish · 02/01/2006 13:25

Cheers AQ. I feel that perhaps the blade is too deep in or something daft. I have heard that they get better over time.

You've raised my spirits now AQ. I don't like cutting paper as it doens't lie as well on card. I've tried all sorts of places on the cutting pad as well. I'll get there I spose

JayzMummy · 02/01/2006 14:29

Im sure that the dies need time to bed in IYKWIM...keep at it...cut loads and the dies will be fine.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but it is rather the current topic!

For those of you who use sizzlets and or QK dies on you Sizzix machine-

do you see signs of wear on the pads of the dies. I feel I must be rather heavy handed! I don't have any sizzlets but the QK die you can obviously change the foam pad as and when you need to.

JayzMummy · 02/01/2006 17:43

No sign of wear on the sizzlits...only just go my qickkutz so cant comment...all I know is the QK dies are a PITA!!! How fiddly are they!!!!
