Because none of you warned me how addictive crochet would be Grin. I've done no housework this week, and have gone to bed bleary-eyed and exhausted every night. You're wicked, every last one of you.

Proud owner of multicoloured blanket and colourful new bag Grin

spikemomma · 21/10/2011 22:28

Wait til you start dreaming about it lidlevoice! You will. I utterly heart it. I've wanted a hobby for years and now I feel lost if I don't carry at least one crochet hook in my bag. Used to be a pen...! It's so relaxing. When did you start?

NellVarnishedInAPuffOfSmoke · 21/10/2011 22:29

Well my house is like a midden and my children are starving since I found Pinterest Lidl. Grin

I have actually made stuff this week too, and have crocheted three granny squares tonight for a MN blankie but I haven't done the dusting.

PM me your email if you want a Pinterest invite, mwahahahaha!

Attic 24 is lovely screamqueen, these are good too:

Google 'yarn bombing' and feed your addiction!

spikemomma · 21/10/2011 22:34

And don't go anywhere near ravelry... Oh man- your family will be so neglected. Luckily, they won't be able to leave cos they will be trapped by the domestic carnage blocking every floor and doorway.

Can someone please get my floordrobe tidy? I have yarnings to attend too...

NellVarnishedInAPuffOfSmoke · 21/10/2011 22:44

Oh I forgot about Ravelry .... yikes I've not been on there for ages. And yarn bombing sounds like fun.

Must. Not. Google. It.

NellVarnishedInAPuffOfSmoke · 21/10/2011 22:49

And don't, whatever you do Lidl, google crochet scumbling.

Delirious you are on my hit list now too - <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?q=yarn+bombing+images&um=1&hl=en&client=firefox-a&hs=OI3&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB:official&channel=s&biw=1024&bih=407&tbm=isch&tbnid=EzWIy6XIZeNa1M:&imgrefurl=mmonroedesigninspiration.wordpress.com/page/2/&docid=ngQWGYhNdd90jM&imgurl=ladypolkadots.files.wordpress.com/2010/11/guerilla-knitting.jpg&w=332&h=500&ei=l-ihTqzzPMyq8APIr6ToBQ&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=457&vpy=17&dur=1882&hovh=276&hovw=183&tx=78&ty=280&sig=101999652086835422060&page=1&tbnh=115&tbnw=87&start=0&ndsp=14&ved=1t:429,r:10,s:0" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">yarn bombing indeed.

GiganticusBottomus · 21/10/2011 23:27

Ok. Please can someone explain pinterest to me? On the link NellVanishedInAPuffOfSmoke linked to, here was a picture saying 'excellent tutorial for crochet novices on how to make a granny square' but when I clicked on it it just showed a larger version of the picture. How do I find the page it is talking about? Confused

NellVarnishedInAPuffOfSmoke · 22/10/2011 00:22

Superdragon noooooooooooooooooooo! More hours lost!

GiganticusBottomus (I've got one of those, tis a Scottish one though called GiganticusBahookieus), let me have a lookie ...

Rightio, on the top right of the big pic, there should be a link to the blog/websitey thingy/Flickr/wherever the pic was pinned from. The granny square was a funny one actually which bamboozled me for a mo as it came up as a google doc, but you just had to scroll down for instructions.

Try this one as a test. The link on the top right of the pic should be for Attic24's blog - click on it at your peril, we might never see you again!

I have GOT to go to bed.

Maybe just one more pin ...

NellVarnishedInAPuffOfSmoke · 22/10/2011 00:23

Oh and Lidl, while I was merrily pinning away, I came across this.

See ya! [hgrin]

LidlVoice · 22/10/2011 20:07

iceandsliceplease · 25/10/2011 20:29

The thing about crochet is that there is always just that one more stitch.

And then if the pattern's a bit complicated, you decide it would be better to carry on for a bit longer, just so you get the pattern fixed and clear in your mind.

Then it's probably best to complete the row/round, so you have a clear start for next time.

But oh dear... I seem to have started on the next row. Never mind. I'll just finish this one....

I now have a serious crochet habit. I find myself telling DP that it'd be easier and cheaper for me to just 'whip up' some lacy/net curtain things to keep the house warmer. It'll take me a week to make just one, and even if I use the cheapest yarn/thread possible, it'll still cost more than it would to walk half a mile to the charity shops and buy material from them that would more than amply do the job.

My name is iceandsliceplease and I am a crochetoholic.

xmyboys · 26/10/2011 19:41

Ok, I need help! I did an intro course, two hours in a coffee shop. Loved every minute if it!!! BUT I was pathetically Blush bad at it. Tried it only once since.
What do I do?
I desperately want to love it as I am drooling over a granny square blanket.

Try this for starters but be aware that the terminology is American and therefore slightly different to the UK.

bluebump · 26/10/2011 19:53

I am currently making a granny square blanket - and have been since June, it's very addictive but i'm very slow at it! I love that Attic24 blog, i'm going to browse some of these others now!

NellVarnish · 26/10/2011 19:56

xmyboys, I wouldn't worry, I taught myself last year from a childrens book from the library! Grin Oh and some YouTube tutorials. I sat on the sofa like a granny with my crochet in one hand and the laptop on the side and replayed the videos over and over till I finally got it which took some time.

Can't remember the exact ones I used but have found which looks quite clear, but there's loads. Just go through them till you find one you like the look of.

Like delirious says, watch out for US terminology but if you nip over to the lovely Attic24 blog, there's some info about US v UK crochet terms on there.

Happy hooking!

NellVarnish · 26/10/2011 19:57

Oh cross post bluebump, I love Attic24 too :)

xmyboys · 26/10/2011 20:22

Thanks everyone.
Will bring them out tomorrow.
I keep putting it off as I think I've got too many other things to be doing, but I DESERVE some me time.
