portable sewing machine

these are on ebay for a fiver.. I can't use a big sewing machine, no idea how to. I can sew by hand, but would like a slightly neater option..

has anyone ever used one?

I have and they're easy enough, as long as you know what you're doing go for it!

as long as I know what I am doing... erm, no :o but I am sure I will work it out somehow, and if it works ok maybe I can buy a proper one..

Just have a good read of the instruction beforehand and you'll be fine It is a great way of getting started!
