Gah! How do I put the cog into a sewing machine properly?

I'm so useless. I really want to start using a sewing machine, but the thread keeps catching at the bottom cos I'm not putting the cog in properly-driving me nuts! Can any sewing gurus help?!

Do you mean the bobbin? If so, there is an illustrated guide here

There are also videos on youtube - just search for loading bobbin, or inserting bobbin.
