The sewing machine in Aldi...

is it any good?

As someone who is coming back to this after a 25 year break I am slowly learning with my very basic Singer. I did a day course at a sewing shop and they used something similar to this which they were advertising at £250. So is it worth paying such a cheap price or will I regret it? Opinions please.

Oh! and if you get the chance, watch the video, it had me in stiches.

Sorry, I have a bad chest infection and the 2nd lot of anti b's the doc gave me disagreed rather badly with me, am waiting for my FIL to bring me the new script when he brings my kids back from school

Can't really afford that much at the moment. I am saving up for a better machine and should have the money after Christmas but I saw this and thought wow! that is good value for money, does everything I want it to do and more but will it last a year.

With this I could put the money I have saved with some that I have scraped together I could afford this.

I can't really check for you as on my phone, but John Lewis do one for the same price but don't know about the spec.

Just had a look at the JL one and it is a small machine and has no where near the amount of features but thanks for the idea.

DH has said to buy it and then keep saving and if it goes kaput or I find it is not work that brilliantly then I can get another one and it is fantastic then I have some money to buy myself a treat :)

I'll let you know if it is any good.

I've not heard of Silver Crest, but I think ti's worth a punt for such a low price.
I would say it's fine as a beginner's machine.

But I'd buy with the aim of moving to something better later.
I agree with Janome recommendation for a forever machine.

It's better than the jl one? Hmm I had been toying with the idea of buying that one maybe I'll head to aldi and see if they've got one.

I have a Lidl one that's a Lervia. It's okay - I've done a fair few projects. However, it really doesn't cope well with thicker fabric and every now and then it completely randomly loses tension.

I'm saving up for a better machine.

Thanks for the Janome recomendation. That's probably what I'll do with the mone I save.

Just spotted something as I was tidying round the kitchen. The rice cooker I bought from them is Sivercrest.

Just to let you know that DH bought me this. Haven't had a chance to look at it and try it out yet as I have been fairly much bed bound for the last 2 weeks but I will let you know how it goes when I get a chance to open the box and see.
