Fabric Paint

I'm making some Christmas goodies and will be putting them in cotton shopping bags. I've bought some fabric paint to decorate them and was hoping to get my 10 mth old DS to do some hand/foot prints on them. This is a really stupid question but is it okay for him to get covered in fabric paint and will it come off?!

If painting with him is a no-go, is freezer paper the best way of transferring a template design onto fabric?

I am not a health professional but have always used fabric paint with my younger siblings. We did hand prints and decorated jumpers and so on with no issues. I would read the ingredients to see if there is anything terribly toxic but I highly doubt there will be. I have also used it when doing canvas prints with my childrens hands and feet and it has washed off fine. :)
