Lining a leather bag

Last night my d(hmm)p left some eggs in my handbag without telling me - and then watched as i slung bag over shoulder and proceeded to twirl ds around, throw him up in the air... So of course now the lining of my lovely v expensive leather bag is covered in egg.

I've gotten the worst of it off, but I think it needs re-lining. Has anyone done this? I've found some online tutorials but they're for lining crocheted/knitted bags. Is it easy to stitch leather?! I'm guessing i'd need a special needle?

I may just not take the lining out totally, but leave a couple of inches around the top, and then stitch new lining to that.

Any thoughts? TIA!

Yikes!

You'd need a really powerful sewing machine to sew into leather, or take it to a cobbler - ideally you'll need specialist equipment. Wouldn't recommend doing it by hand as you'll cut yourself to shreds trying to push through the leather.

Alternatively, you could make a lining and tack it in place on top of the old one, sewing into the old lining rather than the leather?

I'm going to have to take out the majority of the liner, as it will stink of eggs! I think I'm going to have to cut most of it out, perhaps leave an inch or so of it round the top, then stitch new lining to it, iywim? Obviously won't be great looking, but it's only the lining.

Yes , cut old lining out and use it as pattern to make new lining. make a hem around top of new lining and stich to the remianing old lining.
