The new valentine range is out and the cards are lovely, i dont celebrate it for religious reasons but a lot of the cards can be used for anniversaries etc, i will try and put some pictures up when i have done them for you to see, now.......how do i hide the package and amount on the bank statement from dh?

jenk... can I ask why you don't celebrate Valentines for religious reasons? I am genuinely interested in your response and have no problem if you would prefer to reply by CAT. Bx

Sure, I am a Jehovahs Witness and we follow what the bible tells us.

Valentines Day originates from an ancient Roman Festival which involved worshipping Roman Gods and Godesses.

As we would only worship our God Jehovah then this festival is unacceptable to us and as Valentines Day has its roots in ancient worship of Gods then its a definate no for us-the same as Xmas which is another old ancient Roman Festival to the god of the Sun.

December 25th is the winter solstice in the Julian calendar because on that day the sun begins its returns to northern skies, and the Romans assigned the birth of Jesus to this day.

sorry to highjack slightly, just wanted to say thanks for expaling jenk1, i too was wondering, and have always wondered why jw's dont celebrate Christmas. if you dont mind me asking, is it true that jw's dont celebrate birthdays too? if so, what is the reason? i haven't got anyone to ask in rl

jenk1 · 07/12/2005 20:18

No i dont mind explaining at all.

Right Birthdays-Again the origins of birthdays are with the Romans and Greeks who believed that celebrating birthdays in particular lighting candles was like a person had a protective spirit watching over them.

Birthday Greetings have power for good or ill because one is closer to the spirit world on this day-quoted from The Lore of Birthdays New York 1952.

This is against what we believe, JW,s only worship one god Jehovah and taking part in birthday celebrations is paying honor or worshipping spirits.

Must celebrations or festivals have ancient origins with worshipping ancient gods so we dont get involved.
