Is anybody doing a "home made" nativity costume service?

I.e. making the costumes so they don't look like I have just bought them from woolies and therefore I keep my "good mum" status.

DD is a donkey, i could have coped with a blumin Innkeeper but a donkey takes some doing.

the internet seems to be about rubbish donkey tabards, which don't quite cut the mustard

Donkey coloured clothes, felt tail and ears on a headband??

I don't want to go the habadashery section...I can't sew, i am rubbish...I was the girl given the manual sewing machine at school instead of the electronic ones like everyone else.
Perhaps i can scheme my way into getting her recast as a shepherd...
I appreciate the ideas but I am about as handy as Mr sausage fingers at costume making.

It is a nursery production, but they are taking it very seriously...they have even identified a member of staff working solely on "special effects". i am hoping this means someone with a cardboard star on a fishing line.

I can make a grey donkey tail and ears out of felt for you but am not sure how to fasten the ears to the head of a 2 year old (a staple gun might work though)

Alternatively, I can provide a ready made forked devil's tail and horns that DS2 wore one halloween but it's not really suitable for a nursery nativity play. Or a dragon's hat and tail now I come to think about it.

I'm sure she'll look delightful. Still happy to make tail and ears though (no staple guns required, honest!)

Use a headband to attach the ears to{smile]...much safer than the staple gun....failing that super glue wears off eventually

Attach the ears to a hair band. This was me last year with DS and like you, I can't sew to save my life.

I bought some furry brown material and a cheapie longsleeved shirt from Primark. Cut out the shape of the shirt twice and stick on with fabric glue. Don't make the mistake I made last year - make you sure you're generous when cutting the furry fabric and leave about 3 inches around the sides (for the glue)

or grey furry fabric even ....

I have a pattern for an Eeyore from Winnie the Pooh costume and can make her a donkey costume based on that if you like.

Oo this looks good, does it go up to a larger toddler size. She is avery very tall 2 year old. i would say size 4 in Next terms though still 2 -3 in H&M.

Yes, it goes up to age 4. So I could make it to fit.

I've got to do 1X shepheard (nabbing my dad's old walking stick) and one traveller. now, it may be my Somerset origins, but to me that means flares, dirty tie dyed t-shirt and a fake jont (preferably with a UB40 and an untaxed VW camper for accessories). But NO! It means like the Shepherd, but no crook. Oh, not so much fun then

(Can't help with the donkey am afraid, but Dh makes lighting systems for stage and so I can send you a unit to make lights go low at the minute she comes on if your effort too bad? )
