haha, school's closed for an "occassional day" (ie Christmas shopping day) on Friday and hubby finally starts his new job on Monday. We've decided to escape for a long weekend to the thriving metropolis of Manchester. Only been there once and loved it so much, thought we would stay in the countryside. I've been to the hobbycraft website and there doesn't seem to be one in Manchester. Can anyone recommend any GOOD crafting stores there me and MissE can visit? Thanks....

Hi kiwibelle,

There is an excellent hobbycraft store in Stockport. If you are driving it shouldn't take too long to get there, and I think it is open until 8pm most evenings. It's located in the Peel Centre, you can't miss it! I live quite nearby and am going there myself tomorrow for a browse.Just a warning, Stockport gets mad busy at weekends at the moment, my Mum went last weekend and said it was awful! Most places will be the same at this time of year. In Manchester City Centre itself there is a good arts and craft shop called Fred Aldous, open 8.15am- 5.15pm Mon-Sat. Not sure if it is expensive though. Both have a website, just type the name in and it should come up. Just tried to do link and failed miserably! Have a good weekend.

There's also a Hobbycraft in Bolton,

Near Bolton Wanderers football ground, Middlebrook

Nemo1977 · 14/11/2005 21:59

bolton, stockport or even warrington all withing about 30-40min drive of manchester.

Hobbycraft has moved from near the Footie stadium (Horwich) into the centre of Bolton. There is a Craft store (Craftworld) near the stadium but I didn't think it was much good.

Fred Aldous in Manchester is good but its off the beaten track down a side street. I've not been for ages.

Manchester also has a big Paperchase in the city centre - good for nice paper & bits.

Ah, sorry, Whizz. I lived in Bolton over 5 years ago !

There's The Paper Mill Shop in Salford Quays The Lowry Centre
They've reduced a lot of the papermania products & embellisment, I got a load at weekend up to £5.00 of boxes of embellishment that normally cost £15.00, but I got mine from the Cheshire Oaks branch, you can get a box of A4 card for £6.99 I got loads in the box and it realy good quality

Whizzz · 14/11/2005 22:24

I was in the Paper Mill Shop in Cheshire Oaks on Saturday Carolinett ! I didn't buy too much though !

kiwibelle · 14/11/2005 22:37

DH is stoked... well, laughing, that I have so many places to visit. I'll definately follow up the paper chase lead - it's somewhere I've heard about and wanted to get to but, unfortunately, none around me.

Whizzz · 15/11/2005 18:51

I always think its funny when you go there or to Salford Quays when you see people dressed head to toe in stuff from the shops.

All I bought was 6 bits of shiny card for £1 & some sticky foam pads 65p !

Carolinett · 15/11/2005 18:54

So you did see me

Whizzz · 15/11/2005 18:56

I went to start Xmas shopping but couldn't find anything!

Carolinett · 15/11/2005 18:59

I hate when that happens, you always find the things you want when you've got no money and then you battle with the plastic, it always wins.

Carolinett · 15/11/2005 19:00

I'm off to watch Emmerdale I know sad

Whizzz · 15/11/2005 19:02

OO it's never been the same since Matt Skilbeck left !

kiwibelle · 21/11/2005 20:38

I love Manchester!! We had such a fab weekend and I can not believe the crafting goodies that I got away with buying. Salford Quays is an interesting shopping spot. I did enjoy the Paper Mill although I should have been more prepared. Ofcourse MissE wanted to get one of everything. We also stopped at Hobbycraft in Stockport and got a few more b&ps. Afterwards we went to the Museum of Hatting. I am so inspired to make a hat now .

Glad you had fun ! Did ou get any bargains ?
I was at Salford Quays on Sunday in the PaperMill Shop

kiwibelle · 21/11/2005 21:33

Whizz... at this stage, everything is a bargain . I'm such a newbie. I got a couple of the stamp sets which seemed like a good deal (£8, I think) and some paper punches. I was when my dh bought the caddy of wooden scrabble letters for his sister - I so wanted them too.
