Dressing-up chest ideas??

Hi everyone

Not sure if this is the right place to put this - but wasn't sure where else to put it. Smile

I'm putting together a dressing up chest for my soon to be 5 year old DS's birthday. We have a large wooden toy box which I'm going to rub down, paint and fill.
I've got a few 2nd hand costumes from Ebay, a sword and shield, and have seen a fab hat.
I don't want to but anymore readymade costumes as such, but am stuck for ideas. Any inspiration would be great.

I would quite like to make a few things to go in it (maybe a black cloak?), so any links to tutorials/patterns or just ideas would be great too.

Thanks in advance

Oh my fab mil made all sorts of costumes for the dc, for instance a robin hood one, using mainly green fleece and all sorts of cloaks.

I also put in their dressing up drawer various old hats and my mum's old dressing gowns (1960s) (and ds has always favoured them!)

Maybe an old shirt, old tie etc?

Thanks Franca - might have a little trawl around some charity shops.

a green tabard could be anything, from Peter Pan to Robin hood to a dragon's base-cloth etc.

how about some feathers?
different coloured ones, and with elastic/glue/needle and thread, he can be an Indian Chief or a bird etc.

a selection of narrow and wide head bands could be bandanas for pirates, or for sticking the feathers in, or for legs, or bandages, or for sports people.

Long thin sheets, then he can be a ghost or a roman/greek

suede trousers - cowboy, indian, dinosaur.

plain masks - then he can decorate them to whatever face he wants for that dress-up day.
