Crochet Hooks - How to store?

frazzledblob · 18/04/2011 13:42

As I seem to spend more time looking for my crochet hooks rather than actually doing any crochet I thought it was time to think about better storage.

They either end up hidden in various bags of different projects or DD pinches them to use as magic fairy wands Blush

So can I have some ideas please? :)

Mini eggs tubes are great for this. You could always cover them with sticky backed plastic so the DCs don't think you've hidden a treat!

LOL now do I eat the mini eggs to store my hooks in or do i share them with the dc?

Ooh. Dilemma Grin.

I like pencil cases, got a lovely huge oilcloth one from paperchase which is perfect. I also have a small jug that I keep the rest of my hooks in.

this any good to you?

zisforzebra · 18/04/2011 17:17

You can get special crochet hook tubes from some knitting shops but this is cute too. I just store them and my dpns in a pencil case.

overmydeadbody · 19/04/2011 08:28

Make a pencil case to store them in

Or crochet a tube to slip over hte mini eggs tube, that will look nice

Bumperlicioso · 19/04/2011 10:53

A proper case with pockets is the best thing really as a tube or pencil case makes the clink around and can chip them though mine just hang around an old bag free off Marie Claire

craftynclothy · 19/04/2011 13:18

A fabric crochet hook case is probably best. I don't tend to take mine anywhere (except when doing a project and it's usually only one so just shoved in the bag [blush) so at home I have a paintbrush stand thing (was a couple of quid from Wilkinsons or B&M) like this cgi.ebay.co.uk/Plastic-Sectioned-Paintbrush-Stand-Pot-NEW-/110669918798

oh my there are some great ideas on here.

Thank you for all the suggestions. I am liking the mini eggs suggestion for obvious reasons, crochet tube to slip over is good.

My ultra lazy side wants the pot stand, toothbrush case or a pencil case but I am really liking the roll up case. Now I just need to decide on some fabric and actually sit down and make it.

I will probably get thrown off the Arts and Crafts threads for suggesting this but you could buy one. Blush

I got the second on the left (with hooks) as a present here but there are others as you see. Depends if you think you will actually make it or like me think that making would be a lovely idea, buy the fabric, the binding and the thread and then never make it because you are too busy crocheting (or knitting in my case). Grin

Or if you really want to make one there is a clever pattern here or another here but there are plenty of others by the looks of it.

frazzledblob · 21/04/2011 18:53

lol that is what i tend to do - rush out and get all my supplies in and then get led astray by another project.

i was fereling inspired by all these patterns yesterday so I decided to make one. It did'nt quite go to plan as I could'nt get out with the kids to get more fabric and then the sewing machine played up.

I was too determined to give up so I recycled a cushion and used some wonderweb. I know this will probably horrify other crafters but i liked the fabric of the cushion, was too lazy to sew by hand and I now have loads of stuffing for my crochet amigurumi Grin

will do a picture when i find the camera.

Oh well done.

I promised to make DS1 a camera pouch about 4 months ago. Haven't even managed that yet. How hard can a couple of seams and a bit of drawstrong cord be?! I do have the fabric and the threads though, ready for when motivation finally strikes. Wink
