Please help me with a Prince costume for DS

Nursery are having a Prince and Princess's fancy dress day and I am totally stuck for DS age 4.

I have looked on the net to try to find one to buy but can't find anything that isn't medieval.

I know I can buy a crown but want to go to a bit more effort than this but I'm not arty at all although will give things a go.

Any thoughts on what he should wear, where i could get a costume, accessories which would pull it all together???

Thanks

You definitely need a nice wide royal blue ribbon for a sash. Some sort of boots would be good but not that practical for a four year old. Leggings for manly breeches? Some gold braid ham-fistedly sewn on?

Oooh I like the idea of leggings and braid, that will work well. Any thoughts on top half?

White shirt - preferably too big for him

dark leggings

waistcoat or tabard - made from old top, adult T-shirt or jacket that has been cut down to size & shape needed - you could stick diamate, sequins & coins onto this with fabric glue to make it more "princely" or leave it plain

Long strip of fabric to tie around his waits over shirt & tabard to make cumberbund - gold or bronze would be great - no need to sew it up if you are not crafty, but can be sewn into a long belt if you can manage it :)

rectangle of cloth - towel, pillowcase or similar will do - try & have this in a good "princely" colour, such as red, purple or royal blue - deep hem this at 1 end & slot through a length of wide cord, or a satin dressing gown cord -0- you know the tasselled things you can buy in cloth shops

Wellies - if not the right colour cover them with pva& coloured tissue paper - this will wash off if soaked later

& finish with cheap plastic sword/crown from poundland etc
