I'm having a party for my 40th birthday next Saturday. It's a sit-down meal followed by disco. I'm doing a seating plan and so need place cards to put on the table.

Does anybody have any ideas for something lovely or interesting? Or something my boys (7, 5 & 3) could "help" with?!

TIA.

Quite liking this idea although not sure my biscuit-making skills or my icing skills are up to it.

A friend of mine made hers for her wedding from different sized pebbles, she painted them and then wrote the names on in magic marker. Not sure if she collected them or bought them from a diy shop but would have thought the boys could get involved with painting them different colours in poster paint and you could do the names?

Alternatively paint them with black board paint and write on with chalk but not sure this would be safe for young kids.

I made badges for my wedding using one of these here .
It was loads of fun, you can use fancy paper, print or write the names. We pinned them to everyone's napkin, then later in the evening everyone was either wearing theirs or swapping them about.

rocketleaf is blackboard paint dangerous for young kids then? Or did you mean not afe as in not easy for them to do?

AllBuggiedOut how about parcel labels tied around the cutlery with a pretty ribbon with each guest's name on it? Or is that a bit boring?

The badges are a fab idea!

OMDB - all I meant was not sure if the blackboard paint it toxic when wet and prob won't be washable, so not sure it would be good for youngsters to use. Kids poster paint obviously is fine but not waterproof so wouldn't be durable.

Another idea seeing as it's Easter weekend is boiled eggs decorated with their names on? You could write the names then the boys could decorate with felt tips, glitter, feathers etc?
