Hi there - quick question... i have a pattern which calls for 'worsted weight'. I also have some aran wool which has been given to me... can i use this in its place or will it affect the pattern?

thanks!

Compare the tension of your pattern with the tension on your ball band. If they are more or less the same (the number of stitches being the most important) you will be alright. You can always adjust the lenth.
For yarn equivalents look on Ravelry (ravelry.com)
Otherwise you will have to do a swatch

Traditionally, worsted weight yarn (an American term) is slightly lighter weight than Aran.

I always thought it was slightly heavier than DK (which I suppose is the same as slightly lighter than Aran Grin)
