Dying pasta

Can anyone help?
I want to dye some pasta and rice for some collage work . I've found a "recipe" on the internet but suggests using rubbing alcohol. What is it? Is it essential for dying pasta or rice? And if so, where do i get it from?
TIA

I make it for play group every 3 weeks.
Boil pasta, drain add food colouring to a couple of table spoons of oil and get in there with you're hands but wear rubber gloves it's a bugger to get out.

I cooked pasta before in food colouring and then drained it and left it to dry.

I'll be doing some more in a few weeks, might try some rice to do sticking with too.
