I've got a pair of jeans which have worn on the inner thigh. Is there anything I can do with them other than put them in landfill?

Cut 'em off into shorts

make them into a skirt?

Bags!

Dd1 and I have made several bags out of old jeans which she has used as birthday prezzies - make into bag shape, add long denim strap, embroider sequins etc on. Esp good if you can fit a back pocket on the bag!

Dd1 is only 11 and can do this - you can get about 4-6 bags out of a pair depending on the size.

Dunno what we are going to do next now all her friends have one!

you can use the denim to make cushions. nice with patchwork effect.

They've worn too high up, unless I want hotpants or a bum-flashing skirt!

X-post. Bags or cushions sound good but I'm not very crafty. I can just about knit but I'll have a go. I just feel guilty putting them in the bin!

Bags are easy.

Cut an oblong down a leg, a bit more than double the size you want.

Sew up the side leaving a flap hanging over. Add a stud to keep shut.

Make a long strap - the seam is good - and attatch.

Stick or embrooider on sequins.

As I say, my 11yo can do it with a bit of help.

when I did my HND, we had to make a jacket out of old jeans.

there were some really creative ideas.
mine, not so creative, but everyone did really well!

(i just used the waist of the jeans into the waist of the jacket and went from there - picking the biggest parts of the jeans for the sleeves etc)

I used 2 pairs, because I used the largest bits, but you could cut it into strips, or patches.
one girl made an entirely new piece of fabric by cutting the jeans into patches and sewing them together, then cutting the pieces out of that.

make yourself a denim corsage or make some little fabric flowers with the material and sew onto another top. I have used material this way lots of times here are some on my blog

MadreInglese · 24/03/2011 16:46

patch them

I've cut up a pair of DH's to patch the DCs' trousers, with a motif on top.

If all else fails please dont chuck them in the bin.

The charity shops will take all clean clothes whatever their condition. They can still make money from the 'rags' which get sold on to be turned into other stuff like wadding or filling, etc.
