cushions from jumpers

Anyone know how to make cushion covers from jumpers? I have found some instructions but not what I want. I want to use the body of the jumper and it needs to be removable for washing. I thought I wanted a button type close or flap over the back. Also not sure how to do the seams once I have cut the jumper so that it doesn't fray...can you just machine stitch or do you hand sew with wool?
Will be very grateful for input on this.

I am not an expert, but the ones I have seen (and thought about doing) have used a jumper which had been felted a bit by running through a hot wash.

And if I were going to do one, I'd probably also make the backs out of cotton, so then it would be easier to machine sew the jumper to it. And because I'm idle, they'd have a flap...

But an expert will probably come along shortly and tell me I'm wrong!

Someone I know used to make brilliant cushions out of old woollen blankets which had been felted and machine dyed. But I never see those kind of blankets in the charity shops any more.

You can only felt something made from pure wool, BooRadders.

Felting would prevent the wool from unravelling.

Ok,am not sure that the jumpers are pure wool so that's probably a no go then. Hoping someone out there can help....
