Making baby shoes - what to use for soles

I was thinking of making some little baby shoes just out of fabric but was thinking of making leather type soles so when dd starts walking she can wear them on our laminate floor. Any ideas what I could use that's cheap?

Scour charity shops for items of clothing in suitable fabric (faux-suede things for example) and hack 'em to bits at home?

or car cleaning chamois?

How about cutting up inner soles? The ones you put in your normal shoes when you buy pretty ones half price in the sale but only have a size too big... Do you know what I mean?

Leather elbow patches from haberdashers?

Bumperlicious · 28/02/2011 22:59

Thanks all, was thinking chamois. Insoles are a good idea too, not sure how cheap they'd be.

Actually I don't really want shiny leather do I? I want more of a suede for grip.

you can buy precut soles bumper....not sure where though; I'll see what I can find.

You can also buy paint on latex paint so you can do the patterns like you get on the bottom of slipper socks.

hellymelly · 28/02/2011 23:07

yes I was thinking paint on latex too.then you could use thick felt, or felt up charity shop woolies and chop them.

CrispyCakeHead · 28/02/2011 23:08

Oh, and if you turn the leather elbow patches the other way out, the suedey non slip side will be on the sole.

I found this guide though; would work for fabric as well as all leather.

You need some of this:

Anything else would be too slippery on a latex floor.
