I'm putting together a craft/ messy play box for my niece's 2nd birthday as think she'll be inundated with toys. DSIL is a bit anxious around mess, so I'm keeping it 'clean', if that makes any sense at all. I know she's got paints and chalks as she got an easel for Christmas. So far I've made/ collected a felt sewing/ button game, dyed pasta shapes that I'll put with glue and off cuts of thick card for sticking, pipe cleaners and straws of different lengths and texture, lots of shapes cut out of 'funky foam' (my DD loves these in the bath as they stick to tiles/ windows with water). I'll add some packs of stickers too. Oh, and will make up some zip lock bags of no-cook playdough mixture, to which they'll just need to add a measure of hot water and food colouring.

Any more ideas, or can anyone see any major flaws in my plan? Thanks.

You can put together some large beads/coloured pasta tubes and some shoelaces for threading and making necklaces and bracelets.

You can also get stick-on googly eyes.

Glitter glue.

collect some bits from your recycling for model making. Maybe buy some lolly sticks, pom poms, tissue paper etc.

I know that glitter is a bit messy but glitter pens? how about sparkly card. How about some cutters to use with the play dough. Great idea though.

Thanks, some easy ideas here. Running out of time to make much more myself. Just need to get a few lidded pots etc to keep it as tidy as possible. Bought her an apron at Christmas.
