Has anyone made maternity clothes (either from a maternity pattern or adapted something)? Especially Medieval but any help really.

I'm making a dress for my birthday party and was about to start cutting when OH said we're going to have to postpone by 3 weeks which means that I'll be bigger than when it was planned for. I was more confident about making a dress for two weeks time but not so much about 5 weeks time.

It's a coat dress with lacing at the front and doesn't meet but it would still need to be altered so that it lies properly - there's an underdress to it that's already made because it's huge so I wasn't worried. My plan at the moment is to transfer some of the bust dart to the waist and create a dart in the skirt to match. I'm also making a 20 back and 24 front (who's measurements are patterns taken from???) to stop it from pulling around to the front. Currently it's about 2.5" too narrow.

What would you do? Make it now with [what?] measurements? Or hold on and make it in a few weeks time?

what fabric are you making it from? if its something stretch y you would be fine, if not i would wait a bit if possible.

It's a cord so not a lot of stretch. We're not reenactors but going with people who are and likely to be inspected so need to keep things fairly authentic.

Can you put in some side panels maybe and that might be less noticable?

Or maybe if they are reenactors, they onrmally have lots of clothing between them and would be happy to help loan clothes??

I've already spent quite a bit on the fabric and made the underdress so I don't want to not use it as I don't do enough sewing these days to absorb it. It's all blokes we're going with and the stuff they do they're not likely to have anything.

I think creating darts will be the way to do it, I need to keep some in the bust because I'm rather large chested and then the waist I can alter or not as needed, although not sure how much is needed.

I forgot, I think cord might show up side panels and it would have to be shaped so that the armholes didn't end up too big, I'm not sure how I'd go about it.
