Jewellery Makers..can you help me?

I bought a silver bookmark with charms for a friend a while ago and it cost me around £15.00.

I thought about getting some more for mothers day as both our mums are avid readers. A bit of research has shown me that the components are much cheaper than I paid for just 1 completed item.

So if I get a silver bookmark, how do I attach the charms? I'm not sure of the difference, ease, or appearance between jump rings and split rings etc.

I assume I need to attach a split or jump ring to a charm or charms then attach that to the bookmark? And do I need those special pliars? And what about if I wanted them to "dangle" do I attach a ring to some form of chain? I'm clueless but I'm quite good at crafts so willing to try.

Can anyone help me?

Hi, split rings are one continuous round similar to those used on key rings where you slide your keys around. Jump rings open up if you pull them apart. You can attach a charm with a jump ring to your bookmark and you don't need special pliers. If you can get hold of needle nose pliers (pointed to the end) then they are fine but make sure you open the ring by lifting it upwards and not outwards i.s. don't widen the circle simply open it so that the one end is above the other.

Hope that helps.
