I want to try some basic things for DD age 2,

don't really want to buy any patterns unless they are cheap.

Not sure how it works?!

I don't know but you could check your library for some basic sewing books. They might have some children's patterns you could work with or adapt.

charity shops, some have a stash, but they may be from 1970. Or keep looking in craft/sewing monthly mags, they sometimes have patterns included.

There are lots of gathered skirts tutorials around (try typing 'twirl skirt tutorial' into Google). I like this one - and she has other good clothing tutorials listed down the left-hand side.

Magazines like Sew Hip sometimes have children's patterns in, as well.

the Oliver and s website blog is Fab - the free patterns are on the right hand side. Although I have made the Sailboat top which came out fantastic (even if I do say so myself) and it was my first "proper" sewing project! There are extra tutorials and tips on the blog for ALL of their patterns. The pattern was quite expensive though! (I bought it from here

and also sewmamsew has links for making almost everything- you can browse through the catagories in the search section on the left. The handmade holidays is really good.

also - there are hundreds of tutorials that people have published on their blogs. I always search google images for tutorials rather than the standard search.

Sewhip has some great sewing patterns...you might be lucky enough to see one of my things in there soon.... ooo

And the library too, often forget that.

What kinda thing do you think you want to try?
