Cannot find the fabric I need!

I am searching for a medium weight fabric with a black labrador print on it (for a quilt for someone else, I hasten to add) but I'm having no luck.

This would be perfect if it weren't upholstery weight and £55 a metre! That is what I'm charging for the whole bloody quilt!

This is the sort of thing I really, truly do not want.

Anyone got any ideas?! The client wants a black lab on the quilt but applique-ing a black lab just seems so fiddly and not really sturdy enough for washing etc. So I thought the backing fabric could be a dog print instead. argh

Sorry can't help you with the fabric but had to say Shock at your quilt only being £55. My last one cost £85 in fabric/wadding Grin

How about these miracle fabric sheets which you can run through the printer and print onto. You could use them as a sort of patch work.

bruffin · 04/02/2011 16:17

[[http://www.emilybond.co.uk/products/labrador-print/ still expensive but cheaper than £55

still expensive but still cheaper than £55

Thanks everyone- the puppy one is still a bit on the twee side bamboobutton but thanks-
I like the Emily Bond one bruffin but at £42 I still will make nothing! It's also upholstery weight... urg.

TotorosOcarina those ebay ones look a pretty good compromise, thank you- esp the red one as the quilt also has to have a red tractor and a strawberry on it (bloody demanding farmer!)

Most intrigued by the fabric sheet printing thing though- have you used them?

And craftynclothy it is emphatically a mates' rate..!

I have seen this company mentioned loads of times in blogland - Not sure what your time span is but would still be much cheaper than £55

I think people usually sell off what they have left over in their etsy/misi/folksy shops.

coldcomfortHeart · 04/02/2011 20:20

wow soccerwidow there are some fantastic designs on there- wouldn't even need to design/create my own fabric, wonder if a teal labrador would be ok! Thanks for that... mmmmm

Yes have used the miracle sheets
I printed photos of DDs favorite group and made cushion covers for her

TotorosOcarina · 04/02/2011 22:19

ouldn't you by aa few of these and just use the dogs?

coldcomfortHeart · 04/02/2011 23:20

I am now addicted to that spoonflowers site...

Good to hear the miracle sheets do work, amazing really.

Think I'm leaning towards the silhouette option TotorosOcarina, especially this puppy one. I love how you can get the fabrics in all sorts of fabrics and weights- wish I'd thought of the idea first!
