I get mine from The Felt Fairy on Ebay. 30% wool to 70% manmade, lovely colours. I got a colour chart from her for about £3 and it make choosing colours to match a dream, on screen colours don't match. Free and v. quick delivery. She has just put up her prices this month but still good value I think.

I like to use 100 per cent wool felt and get mine from Myriad. They have a lovely range of colours using plant dyes but they are expensive, although it is excellent quality and free from harmful chemicals. It is nice to use for children's toys especially babies. £1.50 for a 20x30cm sheet. They do nice stockinette for doll making too.

If I want cheap felt, I get it from the local market (about 40 pence a sheet) but it is acrylic and a bit shiny and scratchy and does not sew as well as wool.

Flutterbye thanks for that link to Felt Fairy they have some lovely colours in the wool mix. Might give that a go.

thanks for both links. I don't want polyester / acrylic. I want the best I can afford!

the habadashery stall at Hitchin market sells 100% wool felt.....such a pity i live on the other side of the world now :(

hitchin market????? Interesting! I'm not too far away from Hitchin. I'll investigate this further. I much prefer to look and touch myself and find internet shopping difficult Grin.

you will have to ask them as they dont put it on the front. its been more than 6 months since i was there but they should still have some (i hope).

they did have a nice range of colours.

Blooming Felt has some lovely stuff. All of it is wool I think.

Niecie · 27/01/2011 11:18

These people do 100% felt squares but not by the metre.

Flutterbye · 27/01/2011 13:08

Niecie - Lupin Handmade exactly the same felt as The Felt Fairy (above), I've bought from both. Just the colours are called different names, it's not 100% wool, the 30/70 mix. And slightly more expensive.

lovemysleep · 27/01/2011 13:12

Wingham Woolworks are good - brilliant selection of Merino wool, at about £2.80 per 100 gms.

That is if you are talking about making felt by hand....

Niecie · 27/01/2011 13:22

Flutterbye - you are right. I stand corrected. I had the bookmark saved (not the ebay version) and just clicked on the link and didn't read it this time. Blush

bloomin fabric was the one I have used before (but forgotten the name of!). Thanks!
