Making a kilt?!

Does anyone have a link to a free kilt pattern? We are going to a burns night thing in January and DH wants a silly kilt. Any ideas for the basic pattern?!

7 yards wool, the back of the kilt must show the true pattern of the tartan for a civilian kilt, but show only one stripe of the tartan through the pleated area for a military kilt.

And the front panel has two leather straps with buckles at each side.

Length should just touch the floor when you are kneeling before the Queen! Wink

what else do you want to know?

thanks - is there any particular type of pleat to use? I won't be using tartan so the pattern position isn't in point (but v interesting to know)

Mine has pleats about 3cm at the shallowest, but mine is a "half-kilt" so a full kilt they will be much deeper.

I'd just do it like a school skirt if its only for dressing-up!
