Quick, simple and cheap Christmas craft project for DDs birthday party

We'll be having 8-10 children, 6 yr olds over to our house for DDs birthday.

I'd like to include a Christmas themed craft project this year. Ideally something they can take home to stick on their tree.

There will be boys and girls.

Any ideas?

have you heard of Shrinkies? I got some from The Range (don't know if you have that whereever you live?). They are like pieces of coloured acetate which you can draw on in felt tip, then put in the oven and they shrink (like we used to with crisp packets about 25 years ago!). You can punch a hol in them before you cook them and put string through to make hangy things. I did them with lots of kids at my dd's party (6yrs) and the boys and girls both loved them [smie]

Yes, we have done these at a friend's a few years ago. Good idea, I will investigate if I can get hold of them here (France)

OK, have ordered a box of Christmas shrinkles but they may not arrive in time for the party so I need a plan B.

Sainsburys bakery do gingerbread christmas shapes (about 20 in a box for £2) - so could have these to ice as a fallback.
The easiest, most effective christmas craft we do at the school fair is scratch decorations - can get from baker ross or equivalent. Black pre-cut christmas shapes that they scratch the surface off with a wooden stick and all multi coloured underneath - look really impressive and they love them

sorry - just seen the france bit - might struggle with sainsburys! am sure equivalent french craft place would do the scratch stuff tho

google microwave salt dough

lots of recipes for making dough that you can harden in the microwave.

Although I always harden in the oven, but not an option for you if you want them to take it home same day.

You could also thread popcorn to make chains, or good old fashioned paper chains. They look great made with really small strips of paper and then hung on the tree.

Pine cones - cover with pva glue & then roll in glitter. Use fishing wire/clear thread to hang.

Thanks, one of these ideas will do for sure. We can definitely get some pine cones if we venture into the local forest (brrrr!)
