cross stich for 7 yr old beginner?

7yr old DS would like to 'make a tapestry'

My needlework skills leave much to be desired. Am I right in thinking I should get him a cross stitch kit?
Can anyone recommend a reputable web site?
Thank you

There are children's cross stitch and tapestry kits here - both cross stitch and tapestry and some of them designed with boys in mind. They are a good starting point because you get all the bits you need and you don't have to buy fabric, needle and threads separately.

There will also be instructions so if he likes doing the kit you could then move on to letting him lose with his own thread and fabric and he could design his own pattern.

Thanks, that's just what I was looking for. Have you ordered from that site?

I'm not sure you can order from the site. It is the manufacturer's site. However, they do seem to have a search for a retailer option there somewhere.

I have used www.stitcher.co.uk before and also www.crossstitchuk.com. Both have been reliable althogh I notice that Stitcher doesn't necessarily have everything in stock so be careful if you order from them that you aren't in for a long wait.

had the same request from DS (7) he has been trying to muscle in on mine for a while, so I'm going to put together a little kit for him from odds and ends from my stash along with some Binca from hobbycraft, I've found some small 'alien' cross stitch patterns in an old magazine so I'm going to photocopy and laminate them... see how he gets on, DD likes the idea but has zero attention span.
