Illustrated children's maps.....

I was at Heathrow last week and saw some lovely kid's maps on another trolley - great big posters in tubes with sort of 'Where's Wally' type illustrations on a map of Europe. Millions and millions of tiny people all doing different (and I presume local) things, so detailed. Looked fabulous, and would now like to find one for DS's room to go on his wall - family are fairly far flung at the moment, and would be nice if we could show him where everyone is, and where daddy goes when he's travelling on business.

From the 2 seconds I managed to get a closer look (didn't really want to stare blatantly at someone's trolley....), I think it was called the children's map of Europe, but have had no luck on search engines.

Anyone got any ideas? Thanks!

I've got a nice one from Great Little Trading Company although it doesn't sound quite as interesting as yours.

We wanted it for the same reason as you and it has been fun and informative.

I saw some on display in Waterstones yesterday. In the children's section.

Phoenix cards do map type things I'm sure. I'll ask my friend who works for them if you want.

Thanks so much - that would be really great if you could find out.

Going to so much effort to find it, am beginning to get the impression that I'm going to be more excited about it than DS when it comes....sad sad sad.

ours is called 'Children's Map of the World' and we picked it up at a local bookstore (Books etc I think but I have also seen it at Ottakars). It was about a tenner. Like you say, totally fab for seeing what's happening around the world. MissE's is covered in whiteboard pen tracking her trips around the world.

We also have 'Childrens Map of the world', bought fom waterstones. DS 3.6 loves it and asks us to name all the continents before he goes to bed at night and can now point out several countries

I found this one

I would love a UK Road Map for children - I'm sure there's a market for such a thing. Both my kids love looking at the map when we're in the car, it would be fab if there was a simplified, illustrated version they could follow the route on while travelling.

(Irrelevant to your query, chocolatequeen - sorry!)

checked out Phoenix and they do pirate and fairy maps but not the one you are looking for. However, I was in Selfridges yesterday and thay had them. Didn't see how much they are but if you are really desperate I could get one for you when I next pop in to dh's office.

kiwibelle · 23/09/2005 15:56

marthamoo - not knowing how old your children are, I wouldn't despair. My daughter has got really good at reading the maps when we are driving - especially the big ones which are spread over two pages. Our travel guide is A4 size so it's a decent print anyways. I don't trust her enough to leave her to navigate yet which is something that I need to work on!

Really touched by all of your help - I think that the Dino's one is the one that I saw, although was just peeking briefly at one on a trolley....!

Thanks for the offer Cheekychops - if I'm not happy with the Dino one, I'll hunt you down and get you on the case in Selfridges!

DH in London next week on business - am sure he could fit in Waterstones/Ottakars/Selfridges/Hamleys somewhere in his busy schedule to search for a map he didn't actually see..... The joys of an obsessed, pregnant woman!

Thanks again all x
