Easiest way to make personalised bunting

Can anyone give me tips on the easiest way to make personalised bunting. Am willing to invest in some pinking sheers. How would I attach letters? Glue? Wonderweb? Was planning on using felt for letters so may not like being ironed?

Any tips/links to tutorials gratefully received as have loads of kids to give gifts to and think this might be a good option.

Absolute easiest way would be:

• Cut triangles of fabric with pinking shears
• Use Bondaweb or similar (I use this site for a lot of supplies like this) to iron on letters
• Sew triangles to shop-bought bias binding folded in half, or ribbon, using hand stitching or a zig zag stitch on a machine. Make sure you leave enough at each end to tie up. I usually leave about half the width of the triangle between each triangle, iykwim.

You can buy iron-on felt letters. Look on eBay.

I made bunting a few weeks ago and glued the triangle to a piece of ribbon with pva glue - it was a bit of a rush-job with 2 children helping so doesn't look very professional but has certainly held together! It should also work for sticking letters on. Could you try a couple of different methods on scrap material?

thanks for the tips. if i use quilting cotton (was going to get a few fat quarters) do you think i need to double up the fabric?

No, don't do that... bit of a waste, use interfacing to stiffen the letters and then glue or stitch on.

I recently made a LOT of bunting for my wedding (150m!!!) so consider myself a bit of an expert Being a bit of a perfectionist I made a few test batches

Quilting cotton would be lovely (though I went for polycotton which was much cheaper) (one layer will be fine) sewn onto bias binding from e-bay worked best. I used the sewing machine to stich on the letters, which honestly wasn't that hard (maybe 5 min per letter, and I'm no expert) and looked far far better than glueing. Much more durable too, though I'm not sure if that matters in this case? I used the same material for the letters.

I tried wonderweb and some backing stuff from Hobbycraft but I thought it looked a bit naff for not much less effort personally.

You could always use felt letters so that they won't fray and could be glued on if you're looking for the quickest way. Also the colours of felt are nice and bright, so will stand out well against most fabrics.

It's worth investing in some decent pinking shears as my cheapo ones I bought from Ikea are fairly crappy on many fabrics.

We had some bunting at our wedding which we got from Paper Themes, the same place we got our wedding stationery from. Ours was just to match our invites etc. but I do know that they do personalised bunting too. HTH x
