After my investiagtion thread on how much people spend on xmas bits like cards and wrapping paper, I decided to go to our local craft shop and buy some supplies to make my own gift tags.

Well I ended up spending nearly £20 when I would have spent £10 if I had ordered the ones from the catalogue Ooops!

At least some of the stuff I can re-use, like a stamp and ink I bought.

My only other problem now is that I've had a bit of a mental block I don't know what to do with all the bits I've got.
So does anyone know where I can get ideas?

glad it isn?t just me who spends too much in those shops
I am always going on about making things ourselves to "save money" - always end up costing at least three times as much!
My DD1?s gym bag cost me £8.97 in fabric paint alone, add on the ribbon and material costs...Why oh why didn?t I get a Barbie one from Woolies for a couple of quid??? Still it looks lovely. My first proper sewing project in ages, all pink and lilac in heavy furnishing material, pink, lilac and gold swirly lettering, butterflies and hearts. Was rather nervous but pleased I did it when I saw her happy little face.

There must be some Christmas craft websites out there that aren?t too tacky. (I find a lot of them are American and are a little twee for me). Will have a look and also will keep an eye on this thread for my own inspiration..

The bag sounds lovely though. At least no one else will have the same one!

I'll have to use the stuff I bought or I'll feel really bad for spending all that money!

just found the www.organizedchristmas.com website. A little scary (reminds me of the flylady) and makes me feel rather disorgansied and inferior. No decent card ideas though

MrsEffervescent · 07/09/2005 11:30

that keeps happening to me...i have all this stuff...and nothing is happening with it!!!!

I also feel guilty if i 'cheat' and use anything 'ready made'...so i won't 'allow' myself to buy any packs of raedy made toppers etc!!!!

Mind you ...surely that's how most people start!!!!

Nbg · 07/09/2005 11:48

The plan was to copy the ones I was going to buy but none of the stuff I got is the same which is why I'm having trouble.

I might just sit myself infront of allt he crafting stuff and mess around with it, minus glue!

OP posts:
MrsEffervescent · 07/09/2005 11:56

funny really...that when i do exactl that...just sit there arranging -without glue...everything looks great...then i get the glue...and start doubting myself...scared i'll ruin such a beutiful scrap of paer/flower/ribbon etc...so maybe i am not alone!!!!

hi5 · 07/09/2005 12:36

This sounds like a challenge (the sort any art & crafty person likes)- what did you buy, what do you want to make, can you post a photo - of the sort of stuff you would like to make - and of what you bought. Give us the info, you'll have at least 10 different ideas before long!!

Whizzz · 07/09/2005 12:38

any ideas here ?

Just Google some crafty websites & 'borrow' some ideas !

Dingle · 07/09/2005 12:53

oo new goodies, come on, come on! What did you buy?
I have been flicking backwards and forwards between sites, trying to decide on what new sizzix die to buy!! Got interrupted by the sound of a post van and the sound of something through the letterbox. My heart sunk when I got there to find it was only a catalogue, turned it over....
it was the new Panduro Book!!!
Loads of lovely ideas, full of inspiration and best part about it is that I don't have to buy loads of xmas sizzix shapes to make my cards ans tags this year, I didn't have any last year!!!
Being really good- I want this extension built ASAP!
Sorry, really went off on a crafty tangent there, what I was trying to say, is that you don't need much to make some truley great, original things, let's have a look and MN's will always come up trumps!

Dingle · 07/09/2005 12:54

just read back and that should be "what sizzix dies to buy!...blasted S doesn't always work!!!

Hi Champs ! How's the little one ?

I'm just making some beady jewellery cards !

Nbg · 07/09/2005 16:10

Wow!

YG, Yes it was the one you pass. They've moved a couple of shops up so it's a bit bigger. They sell just about everything and the lady that owns it runs a card making class every week there.

I got...
A little snowflake stamp
Purple/lilac single pigment ink pad
Raspberry coloured liquid beads which are amazing!
Silver xmas tree toppers which are made out of wire
Lilac sparkly snowflakes (the sort kids have at school IYKWIM)
4 Silver spikey wool (I thought I could use that to hang the tags but could be used for something else)
2 wreath toppers made from tinsel
2 sheets of silver sparkly A5 card
3 sheets of angel wire in copper, green and white. I also have some lilac from previous mad shop!
Loads of cream card
2 sheets of green card.

Phew!!

I have made 1 already which has the copper angel wire on the background and 2 holly leaves made from the green angel wire and I used the liquid beads for the berries.
