I apologise for posting this now, but I am a bit slow at making things so need to start sooner rather than later Grin

So, has anyone made any good Xmas decs themselves? All ideas welcome!!

If you want to make some with the kids we made baubles one year that were quite easy.

Blow a ballon up v small. cover with papier mache. Then do a last layer of nice Xmas paper. When dry We stuck on a few gold stars and put a nice ribbon round the neck to hang them up with. Went down a storm with the oldies as presents.

I am making felt decorations like mad at the moment, and feeling very Christmassy as a result! Felt is fab as it doesn't need hemming, is very forgiving and comes in so many colours. I am really liking hearts (embroidered with folky sorts of motifs) and square stars, ie trace a big square shape onto the felt, then turn the square shape 45 degrees and you get an 8 pointed star. Sew two together. Bit different and they stuff up really nicely.

Also cute are pinecones with hazelnuts glued onto the top, paint a little face on the hazelnut, stick a felt collar round it, and a ribbon to hang and you have a tiny pinecone person. awww

Thank you, some good ideas. The kids will love doing the baubles.

Coldcomfort - do you glue the felt onto card to make it stronger?

I would love to make something like this FABRIC MERRY CHRISTMAS GARLAND but have no idea where to start - Maybe I need to take a trip to hobby craft for some ideas!!

I think I might be able to manage this

Would this be easy? How would I make this?

Do you need to be careful with flame retardent fabric & stuffing because of the lights? Or could I just use old tights for the stuffing?!!

Sorry, only just back to this thread! If you scroll down a wee bit here are the hearts I was talking about, plus some snowmen and robins. The robins aren't stuffed but made of loads of layers of felt, so they are quite strong and not bendy. I have glued card onto felt in the past, which makes things even quicker and easier- no sewing!

The Merry Christmas garland is really nice, PinkyDink, but at £10 unless you had all the fabric and stuffing etc already you'd be really hard pressed to make one yourself for that price. Sad
