Charlie and the Choc Factory in a shoe box

DS (4yo) has to do ?world in a shoe box? for this term?s project ?

?The first home learning project we would like to introduce is for you to create a small world within a shoe box!! To do this all you need is a shoe box, a few craft materials and a 4 / 5 year olds imagination! Perhaps you will create a jungle ? or a farm? or under the sea?

To create a jungle you could paint the inside of the shoe box green and then take a trip to the woods to collect moss, pine cones, bark, leaves? this will make the jungle floor. Then you could add some cut out images of jungle animals (monkeys swinging from trees) you might find a small plastic animal in a charity shop to add as a play prop.?

DS has chosen Charlie and the Choc Factory. Any idea on how to do this? All I can think of is paper boats to play on down a choc river. and orange jelly babies or pipe cleaners for Oompa Lumpas. I?m so stuck! Help me, you more craft minded people, please!

Mmm - from what I can remember...

golden tickets

mike TV
old people in bed, cabbage soup

Best to concentrate on just one aspect.
Maybe the choc river, could follow on your orange jelly babies thought with different coloured jelly babies for the children and mr wonk a. Pkossibly make him a top hat.
Green tissue paper or coloured coconut for grass. Mini lollipops for trees .paper flowers etc.
Good luck

Go minimal and recreate the mike TV scene- paint the box white, paint some lego men white and use glitter for the transmitted signal/child. 10 mins, max.

Or blow up a blue balloon and paint a face on it and have it being rolled out by orange jelly babies: Blueberry girl.

Or something.
