My son has asked for a calligraphy set for his 12th brithday. Does anyone have any recommendations for a set or pointers to what I should be looking for.

Thank you

As a calligrapher, I wouldn't buy a set, just aim for a calligraphy pen with three knib attachments. Manuscript do one for £1.99 - £3.99 depending on the shop, and any ink will do until he does specific projects. A block of tracing paper or pad of thin, see-through paper is necessary for the endless practicing and layout etc, with ordinary ruler and pencil. There are umpteen books available, most suitable for absolute beginners. This can be an expensive hobby to start, and one needs lots of patience for practicing, so many people give up before getting to the interesting stuff. I'd recommend a local class to help with inspiration.

Just remembered: Berol do packs of good felt-tip pens, you need the Chisel points to use as coloured calligraphy pens, probably cost around £5 ( if you can find them ) for 12.
If I can help with anything else, please let me know (and Happy Birthday to son!)

Hi i've just started a calligraphy class and picked up a set of calligraphy felt pens at Asda, pack of 8 for £2, might be worth a look.
