and don't say 'Depends how much you use it!' because, I mean, obviously it does Grin

what is the general ballpark, eg would you need a new one for every quilt, or every 10 quilts, for instance?

thanks TBE.
I won't get a spare just yet then. (Good because I've spent a blooming fortune on patchwork kit lately.)
I'm only going to be cutting nice soft cotton for patchwork.

i change mine after every big project, or after 2-3 small projects. SO have made 3 small cot quilts and can still use it, but it is starting to get a bit blunt. when I start my net big project (was supposed to be halfway through by now.... ) I shall buy a new blade.

I do find that cutting through the backing/batting/quilt top layers can really speed up the blunting effect - possibly as I press too hard. SO now I keep older blades just for this and keep nice sharp blades for fabric only.

oh well done TBE!

I start my first one in June - hand-pieced, made of 1.5" diamonds. And am now regretting it because progress is glacial!

So the other day when I saw some nice fabric I decided to have a break from the handmade one and whizz up a quick machine one for a friend, hence the purchase of the rotary cutter etc. (And it's going to be mega simple - a stacked coins strippy).
Am hoping to get it done in a few weeks then get back to the first one.

DH was very Hmm about me buying the new fabric when I haven't finished the first quilt, so I told him to fuck off Smile
