Advice on knitting a scarf!

Hi, I've been given some left over quite textured wool and knitted a hat for my daughter.
Surprised that she likes it to be honest and now she's asked for a matching scarf.
I fancy trying one of those with frilly, ruffled edges that seem to be every where at the mo. If I knitted it up using large needles and changed to smaller needles for a couple of rows at intervals would I get that ruffled effect or just a mess? Thanks.

Can you link to a picture of a scarf like that? I have an idea how to do it but I don't know if what's in my mind is the same as what's in yours!

Hi, similar to marks and spencer 'knitted ruffle scarf', sorry can't work out how to do a link. But the wool I have is chunkier,'lumpy' textured so it will be much less delicate looking.
I just thought I'd try something a bit more adventurous than a standard scarf.
