A friend of mine had a reading at her first scan of 6mm. Today she had a cvs and a second reading showed 4.6mm. Just wondered what other people's experiences of this was.

She is driving herself mad and googling far too much (I have told her to stop!). Results should be through by friday but might need to wait until monday

Sorry no direct experience of a high nuchal reading but if you search this thread you may find some more info. Didn't want your post to just sit here.

Googling is the worst thing to do but can see why she is doing it.

It is a high reading though but sometimes that can mean different things. If she's had a CVS then at least she will know for definate if it is significant or not. Not much she can do but wait it out - feel for her, it's a horrible thing to wait and hear about.

Has she been in touch with ARC. a charity that gives advise about ante natal testing.

Thank you for your responses.

Googling bad news seems to be a form of self harm we all indulge in! I don't know if she's aware of the charity, I shall let her know tomorrow.

Knackered - you sound like you're being really supportive, so I just want to urge you not to underestimate how difficult this is for your friend, and even though you can see she's driving herself mad - all she needs from you is for you to be there and listen. She will google whether you tell her to stop or not. Let her. Even if she just repeats herself and rants like a crazy person-if she can have you there to lean on, it will mean the world - trust me. I had a nuchal reading of 4.5mm a year ago and it did not end well. That said, for 3/4 of women with exactly my results, it does end well. Or at least better. I just wasn't one of them. ARC has a really useful telephone helpline she might like to use if she wants to speak to someone who has been through the same see here. But in the meantime, she sounds really lucky to at least have you there for support and all you can both do unfortunately is wait. We'll all be keeping our fingers crossed for a short wait and some good news.

Thank you LittlePoot - it's so awful for her and so sad seeing her like this. I know there's nothing I can say that will help but I am trying to be as supportive as possible by helping her with her ds and having them over to help keep her mind off it. I had a missed miscarriage at the same time as she had a bad scan and I have to say I would rather be me, the wait is slowly killing her

I will let her know about the ARC, it might help her to talk to others who have been through it.
