Anxiously awaiting CVS results

Hi Everyone

I just wanted to post to see if anyone has any first hand experience of the trauma that we are going through at the moment. We had our nuchal scan on Monday which showed an increased nuchal measurement of 2.9mm, which combined with the blood tests have given us a 1:48 chance of DS and the rest. We had CVS last night and are now anxiously waiting for the results. I have prepared myself for the worst, but can't help wishing that there was something positive to cling to! Has anyone had a similar experience? I would appreciate knowing, even if the outcome is bad.

Your odds are still not bad. The nuchal measurement isn't off the scale either.

Haven't had experience of a CVS but have been through all the will I/won't I test and wondering what the outcome of any test.

Keep postive.

I had cvs following a similar result - everything was absolutely fine. When do you get your result?

Thanks for responding! I get my result on Friday, so will have to try and keep busy between now and then.

I am lucky enough to be the mother of a fabulous almost 8yo girl who happens to have down syndrome. We knew before she was born in that her heart defect was detected and we were told basically if she was born without down syndrome it would be incredibly rare. We have since learnt that our chance was probably about 1 in 5. She is one of 3 fabulous daughters that I am lucky enough to be a mother to. She is in mainstream school doing very well, she attends swimming and dancing and is the most sociable little girl. In the summer she surfs and we are hoping to get her involved in some more sport.

She was born with a heart defect which was repaired by two open heart surgeries when she was 8 weeks old. Since then she has not looked back in terms of health. We have not have any other major health issues - sure tonsils but that seems to be every second child down syndrome or not.

She is funny, witty, charming, bossy, independent, caring, interesting and I am so proud to call her my daughter.

The only down side - the ignorance that we encounter from people who really don't know any better and are still trapped in 1960 mindsets. The assumption that she is less worthy than others, the assumption that she is less able than others.

She will live independently from us - I can see it now - she is already starting to push dh and I away and tell us she can do it all. We do not see this as a bad outcome possibly just a different one to the one we were expecting at the time. She is our daughter with the potential to live a fulfilling and wonderful life. Nothing has really changed except we now dream different dreams for her. The basic desires that we have for all our children are the same - love, health and happiness doing whatever makes them feel fulfilled.

My first pregnancy had a risk of 1:17 (However note that i was 39 years), nuchal thickness was 2.9. CVS showed positive for T21.

My second pregnancy had a worser risk of 1:11 and nuchal thickness was 3.8! I was absolutely convinced that CVS was again positive for T21. However we got the all clear.

It was a terrible time to go through all of the testing and the waiting. It also happened when I was alone and my husband was on a business trip. So I do understand..... Keep in there, I am sure it will be fine!

Is that your daughter on that picture? She is beautiful!!!

I have to go for another scan tomorro I will be nearly 16 weeks as my babies nuchal fold measured 4.6 at my dating scan.

I dont want to go just hate the build up and waiting to go in the room etc.x

I'm going through the exact same thing, CVS yesterday and results this afternoon. 1-48 is a good factor and your consultant may have said if he/she felt confident with the ultrasound. Good luck and I'm sure all will be fine xx

I have recently been through a very similar situation, although my risk was slightly lower (1:60) but the nuchal measurement was 9mm.
I had a CVS and we have been very lucky to have had the all clear but I completely understand the trauma that you are going through.
My thoughts are with you and I really hope you receive good results today
