Abnormal 12 week scan

Hello, I am a first time mum to be. I went to have my 12 week baby scan yesterday and the sonographer said there was an abnormality on the baby’s abdomen. I have been referred to Fetal Medicine but in the meantime I am feeling very stressed. Has anyone had a similar experience at their ultrasound? I’ve been reading online and it looks like it could be an omphalocele, but I’m not sure and I’d love to have someone else’s opinion/ previous experience. Thank you!

Sorry you’re going through this. How long do you have to wait until your Fetal Medicine appointment? They’ll have a really detailed look and talk you through what they see, what they think it might mean for baby, options for extra testing etc. I know it’s hard but it’s usually best to stay away from Google at least until you have more detail on what you’re dealing with - but if you do want to look things up then omphalocele will be the right thing to look at. Try to look at info from websites that are hospital affiliated also, usually that will give you the best overview. All the best and I hope you get more information very soon.
