20 weeks scan anomaly ignored then called back for a further scan

We had our 20 weeks scan and most of the measurements came back within formal range. The TCD came back at 17.8 mm and significantly lower than the NHS normal range. The summary on the report state “No obvious abnormality detected.” Whilst it raised some concern we took the advice of the sonographer and report and tried to not think about it given we are aware all babies grow at different speeds.

It stayed in the back of our minds so we raised it with the midwife at our 24 weeks appointment who said she’d refer it back to the sonographer. Today I received a call from the team saying it is something that should have been flagged and can we go in for a follow up scan.

I’m somewhat anxious about the sudden change and wondered if anyone has has anything like this and can offer any advice and support. I am generally happy to wait and follow advice but feeling a bit let down and upset that we didn’t raise it sooner.

thanks

I would give ARC a call - they are brilliant support for any issues which arise from antenatal testing and will be able to give a much broader view than any anecdotal responses here. Hope it all turns out to be nothing!

OP that’s well within normal range on the charts I am familiar with (have a look on perinatology.com biometry reference ranges for another option). Good to be able to get it checked again and put your mind at ease but it sounds like the first scan report was most likely correct, ie everything fine.

Average range of TCD measurement is 16.3 - 22.1 mm
Its likely you’ve been referred for a follow up scan because you’ve raised some concerns.
