Hi, so I am currently 22 weeks pregnant with my second baby. I have been feeling quite awful the past few weeks. Getting headaches every morning and night, feeling extremely tired and just not myself. I mentioned all thus to my midwife at my 16 week appointment however got told it is normal with pregnancy to have headaches constantly and be so tired. I was not like this with my last. She did not offer any blood tests.
However due to feeling this tired and exhausted I went to gp and they have found that my thyroid is low. I am now worrying about this as the doctor is not back till Monday and has not explained fully what this means. Has anyone else had the same thing during pregnancy? Having a low thyroid?

Thank you in advance,xx

I have spoken to my midwife and she had no concerns and didn't send me for bloods. Then my gp sent me for the bloods and they've came back with low thyroid. The doctor has said she is waiting to hear back from the hospital due to the waiting list for antenatal being so long. I just want to know if anyone else had a low thyroid suddenly during pregnancy

I was incredibly tired at 16 weeks and getting dizzy, even almost feinting driving to work. My midwife said it was normal in pregnancy (my first pregnancy wasn’t like that but I started iron tablets from 9 weeks due to low iron). So by 18 weeks I contacted the gp and asked if they could check my iron level. It turned out it was low, however they also tested everything and found I had tsh of 4.63. I think 4.3 is the highest so I was borderline. I started iron tablets immediately at ~19 weeks.

They just asked me to go back in 4 weeks time to see if my thyroid/tsh had improved. It was the same. They did it again 4 weeks after that. So I was about 28 weeks by the time the hospital said to start medication. They then said to start on 50mg or whatever the low dose is of levothyroxine. So I have been on that for 2 weeks now. I’m now 31+5.

To be honest it hasn’t helped my tiredness or dizziness. My iron hasn’t really improved much in the 11+ weeks, it’s a tiny bit higher but still below the limit. My dizziness I think is actually from a low bp.

Oh and I see a consultant who knows about thyroid at 33 weeks. That will be the first time I talk to anyone about my thyroid (other than a very short conversation with the gp who didn’t really know if there is a difference with pregnancy hence contacting the endocrinology dept for advice).
