I got the phone call today that I tested positive for GD, looking online makes it seem like I cannot eat anything apart from leaves😂(not literally but you get what I mean) I need some advice on what I can actually eat and how it effects the pregnancy. I am severely deficient on iron and B12 which is making me so exhausted but now I need to exercise because of the diabetes?! Help!

I had this with my last pregnancy - I found it overwhelming when I got the call too and also sat thinking what on earth will I eat. I found a few websites with recipes and meal ideas which gave me some idea of what foods to focus on.

I found cheese and crackers, soup, sugar free jelly, and variations of chicken/meat with veg to be the staples of my diet. It is okay once you get into the swing of things and by taking your blood sugars you quickly find what foods work for you and which cause a spike.

Midwife advised to go for walks after meals as this helps with blood sugar levels post meal - found this to be true and was reassuring if I got a high reading and then went for a walk and retested.

It is overwhelming at first but totally manageable once you get your head around it - good luck!
