Nuchal fold measuring 3.8mm at 11 weeks

Hi everyone. Worried sick as I went for my booking scan as I am 11 weeks pregnant with my 2nd baby, midwife said Nuchal fold measured 3.8mm but to come back in a weeks time for a rescan as I would be measuring 12 weeks! Then unloaded a lot of information that it could be Down syndrome and told me not to freak out until I have a rescan not really sure how to feel. Have been so upset but feeling like I should just be positive for Fridays rescan that it measures lower? I’ve added a photo of my scan

I’m having the exact same problem except I’m 11w5d and measuring at 4mm. Let’s hope things are okay I’m worried sick

I am worried sick too I just can’t wait for Friday to come for my rescan and really hoping it has resolved itself. What options did they give you? Some days I feel everything will be ok and other days I am riddled with anxiety

My son was 4.6mm we had cvs. It came back fine. It's a very stressful time

I wonder why some people with slightly higher measurements seem all turns out ok. It gives me hope as I’ve read so many positive outcomes, it’s extremely stressful and takes away from the happiness of being pregnant, with my son it was the happiest time of my life but it all seems so doom and gloom this time round.

It is absolutely awful. It was handled terribly by the hospital too. I'm hoping it's such a strange anomoly for you too x

I agree, even the midwife who did my scan last week at 11 weeks had terrible bedside manor and how contradicting she was is confusing, offloaded so much information about Down syndrome and then said but don’t panic until your rescan on Friday as everything could measure fine. Didn’t offer blood test or anything when I asked would it not show something in bloods she just said no. It leads me to believe she didn’t even get an accurate measurement and that’s why I have to go back for a rescan.

I only found out yesterday but I’m sure I’ll be the same! They said I’ll be going for further tests 1 being the invasive one if I wanted it. They also scan there too. I hope your scan goes well and there’s no need for further testing x

Sorry I’m new to this 🙈

This gives me hope, did you ever get any answers as to why yours was so thick?

Thank you! Same for you I hope everything goes well for you! It’s just so hard isn’t it being in limbo not knowing what’s going on. Friday cannot come quick enough I wish I could just go down now and ask them to rescan me

Mine measured 5.6mm, am now 23 weeks and they can’t find anything wrong. However, I refused the amnio. I had the NIPT blood tests and echo heart scan at 20 weeks with scans each month. The waiting is really awful. I found the hospital really bad the way they dealt with it, I understand they have to give facts but were so negative at the beginning and basically told us we had no hope as it was so high. Now they seem to think all may be ok! Obviously no guarantees but trying to stay positive!

Hi there,

My third measured 4.5mm at 14+1 but can I ask if you also were high risk with the blood screening too? I went for a nipt yesterday after getting 1/24 ds and 1/13 for Edward’s/patau so I’m clutching at straws hoping and praying it comes back low risk and baby is okay. We got a private scan at 14+5 and fluid had decreased and was sitting at 2.9mm so I’m literally in a world of unknown at this point but your message really gave me a bit of hope so thank you x

I think with the blood work it was 1 in 84 but we opted for CVS so we could just emphatically know what was going on. They also told us it was a little boy after the cvs. I was 29 so age shouldn't have played a big role. It was such a confusing and stressful time.

Hey sorry to jump on .. can I ask if you went for a NIPT or did you go straight for CVS? Not sure if there’s much point me splashing out when I’ll probably want the CVS done anyway..

Yeah, I’m trying so hard not to get in my head about it after receiving my results from the first screening but obviously can’t help it and thinking the worst. I’m 32 so a bit older and I also have a lower PAPP A (0.38 for ref.). I think I will have no choice but to go to the amniocentesis as I will not be giving up on my baby unless I have everything in black and white facts but I am trying to find any positive experiences to just keep that little bit of hope inside. We kept all our babies genders as surprises and this one was to be no different but unfortunately giving the circumstances now, have asked to know through our blood work. Can I ask if everything went well after the cvs?

bryceQ · 19/09/2024 11:26

We did cvs straight away. It was recommended by UCLH the hospital I was in. I wanted a proper diagnostic test so this suited me.

My son is autistic but I don't think that has any connections to the downs etc screening. He was a very beautiful baby and no heart problems etc.

Aw thank you for sharing your experience to me, it’s honestly appreciated so much. I’m glad your little boy is healthy and well. We have a nephew with autism and he’s just authentically and unapologetically himself and wouldn’t change him. Thanks again for this, will just have to wait for the amniocentesis and just pray everything’s okay.
