High NT reading & fluid around stomach- similar situation?

Hi, I am
Wondering if anyone has been in this same position.
I’m 39 years old, 12 weeks & 1 day pregnant.
Had scans at 6&8 weeks to check for heartbeat & all was fine.

Had 12 week scan yesterday & the sonographer started by saying she couldn’t get a clear image due to previous emergency c section (2019) she said the images looked grainy.

I could see baby’s limbs stomach & head. What was very noticeable was the NT - i wasn’t surprised when it measured at 5.1mm.

I’ve been referred to St George’s tomorrow for a CVS.

The sonographer also commented on the baby continuing to arch its neck meaning & had me move around the bed lots. It’s worth noting my BMI is 28 so wondered if the fat around my stomach is making it more difficult. She also mentioned that at St George’s they’re the experts and they may do a vaginal scan- I didn’t think to ask at the time but surely she would have been able to do the vaginal scan?

She also mentioned there was fluid around baby’s heart & stomach. However when I read the scan report she put on there there was some fluid under the skin of the abdomen but she omitted the part about the fluid around the heart.

She also didn’t put on the report about struggling to get a good image.

I guess what I’m wondering is has anyone had a high NT & Fluid present on a 12 week scan & also what the outcome was?

I’m going out of my mind with worry as what I was told & what was in the scan differed slightly. Just as I got pregnant I was under immense stress with a family issue, caught covid & also had a secondary tooth infection for which I was prescribed antibiotics & had the tooth subsequently removed.

I had my bloods done & she’s already told
Me to expect them to come back as high risk.

Anyone else with similar experiences ?

Hello.

Just stopping by the say I had this with my second son, was high risk with an NT of 5.4mm
He is currently sat next to me watching CBeebies, a healthy almost 4yr old.
I had two CVS(s) because they didn't take enough fluid in the first sample. The waiting after the CVS was hard. If you can, trying and think of what your want to do if the test came back positive. Do you have plenty of support? It's nothing you've done, it's just a formula to work out risk and the NT is part of that.
My first son was also deemed high risk but had a smaller NT at 4.4mm so we managed with only the harmony testing with him.
He was also given the all clear on the testing.
I've come to the conclusion that I have big babies as they were 8lb 9 and 9lb 5 😄

Hi ladies,

I had a CVS yesterday as our little boy has an NT of 4.7. NIPT came back clear so now it's a waiting game. It feels like such a long time until we get the microarray results back, how did you cope with the wait?

I'm worried about needed a TFMR as I get further along and if surgical won't be possible. I also worry that something will be missed in the testing.

Just wanted to write on this thread as I've been reading so many of these to seek comfort. I'll update with my results for anyone else in a similar position. OP I hope everything worked out well for you in the end x

Hello @Chouxbun.
The tests won't miss what they test for, but of course the tests don't cover everything.
I am surprised they gave you NIPT, perhaps it varies from trust to trust but when I had my second son they said his NT measurement was too high and by having NIPT we would exclude other chromosomal disorders and should go straight for CVS.
I hope everything works out for you x

How did everyone get on in this post? Currently in a similar situation. NT 3.9. Scan wasn't very clear, got a rescan and appointment with fetal medicine on Tuesday with the possibility of an amniocentesis.
