High NT, high chance in screening, low NIPT

Hi everyone,

Just looking for some advice and the experience of others.

This is my second pregnancy after a miscarriage earlier this year. This pregnancy has been full of worry with having a haematoma that has meant most of the pregnancy has been spent on and off bleeding.

At the 12 week scan last week we were full of absolute pure joy watching our little baby wriggling and felt relieved when seeing the heartbeat. However, at the end the sonographer explained the NT of the baby was very high: 5.8mm.

We were taken to what I've named 'the sad room' and spoken through all the possibilities. We decided to go straight for CVS to know exactly however they weren't able to do it due to my bleeding.
So we went for the NIPT test in the meantime.

Those NIPT results came back today as low for everything.

I know these are just screening results and not the same as a diagnostic test such as CVS or Amnio. The specialist has recommended waiting for amnio so that we can be as certain as we can with the results and hopefully tick off a few things that could be wrong and we have booked in for that as soon as I'm 16 weeks (just under 3 weeks to go!!!)

I already know in my head we have a long journey and lots more tests and hurdles to get over before feeling 'safe'.

I just wanted to hear of others experiences. Has anyone had that high of an NT, had low NIPT and everything has worked out ok and baby been healthy?

Thank you in advance x

Glad you’re feeling okay. Keep resting up and hope the results are back quickly. Did they say when you’d have them?x

@Spears979 Hi! I too, have been thinking about you. I'm glad to hear that baby looked okay from what they could see. I'm doing okay thank you, a bit up and down with hormones which sucks but I'm okay.
I imagine today you may have results? So I am sending you positive thoughts and love.

@Spears979 How are you doing now? Have you had your results back yet?
I couldn't have my amnio done on Monday because despite being 17 weeks (by my dates) the membranes weren't fused (had no idea this was even a thing), so I have been booked in for 10 days time. They did the full scan and they didn't find anything immediately alarming nor definitive, but there were soft markers of the round head shape, couple of small cysts on the brain and clenched fists. The nurse explained that these things on their own wouldn't mean anything, but could be indications of Edwards.
Just more waiting and uncertainty.
I got quite emotional when I was faced with the consent forms, but after I was told they couldn't do the test felt a weird sense of relief that I could just enjoy Christmas uninterrupted without the news being broken, and baby would still be tucked up inside me, definitively beginning to feel flutters though and have such mixed emotions. This whole experience it such a head .

@Spears979 I hope you don't mind me asking - I am in a very similar situation to you right now. High NT, low NIPT and awaiting Amnio on Tuesday. Did your Amnio find anything? Xx

@SendmetoFlorida im sorry to hear you’re going through a similar situation, it’s so hard! In my case, my amnio came back clear and my 20 week scan meant I was signed off from fetal medicine as baby looked as he should! Baby is completely fine now (born recently premature - but that had nothing to do with the early issues). I’ll be keeping everything crossed for you xx
