Hello all, i went for my 12 week scan and showed a high NT but all structure of baby okay in regards to growth, nose bone, arms, legs, head etc. But because of high NT they have taken my bloods and then referred me for a CVS today in london which they confirmed high NT and fluid on chest exact words were; generalised skin oedema and fluid in the fetal chest (hydrops). We suspect a cardiac anomaly but the small size of the baby limits the ability to diagnose this for certain. I’ve only just turned 24 years old and this just doesn’t seem right to me nor fair due to my luck the last few years. I have got a lot of satisfaction out of some of the replies on here but i can only see some dated in 2011-2014 but i am new to this. I just wondered if anyone had any advice, had anything similar and it’s all very grey at the moment and they seem quite negative about the high NT which i am prepared for the worse but just want to hold some hope as really don’t want to loose the baby. Thanks x

I know it's easier said than done but try and stay positive. It's an awful wait.

I had the amino and it was too bad. Just uncomfortable. Good luck and look after yourself.

Thank you I'm terrified

Liv2308 · 28/02/2024 21:07

@Molsrose94 My results were exactly the same. 1 in 2 for downs and 1 in 5 for edwards/patty’s and we have a perfectly healthy 3 week old. Try stay positive i know it’s hard but i so regret not staying positive and trying to enjoy my pregnancy. I had my CVS the day after and it was straight forward and they are so lovely and accommodating. Not sure where you are going but i went to UCLH and they were amazing. Keep strong x

@Molsrose94 sorry to hear you are upset. I can totally understand what you feel. My bloods came back 1 in 10 for Down and that made me.very upset too. Please do the CVS and wait for the result as that's what matters the most. I had the CVS and came back all clear so I know the wait will be incredibly hard but at least you will know. Sending you lots of hugs

@Liv2308 sorry you are going through this, I just have and it was the most awful time. I got a more than 1 in 2 chance of t21, although that was based on bloods as NT was fine, but they anyway said that 50% t21 babies don’t show up on the scan so told me not to read too much into the NT…Then I got a higher chance NIPT and then abnormalities on cvs too. Yet by some absolute miracle my amnio quick result came back clear, as did the full karyotypes for both cvs and amnio. They’ve concluded it’s most likely confined to the placenta and I’m keeping my fingers crossed from now on. It was 4 weeks of absolute hell so I’m glad you got the cvs quickly Vs waiting for the nipt first. Just wanted to share the experience as it shows it can happen, and that it’s the amnio that is more reflective of the baby. Wishing you all the best, I have so much empathy for anyone facing this. I agree about the perils of Google but know it’s hard not to! xx

Hi @CB1209 - I know you posted a while back, but I was wondering what your outcome was if you don't mind sharing?
I'm in this awful place of limbo, waiting for amnio next week after a 1:143 result for DS at combined screening, followed by higher chance NIPT result (told yesterday) and just don't know where to begin with trying to process it all. This is a very wanted pregnancy after a devastating MMC at 18 weeks in 2022 and months of being in a very low, dark place and struggling to feel like myself again. I am extremely fortunate to have a happy, healthy, beautiful 4 year old DD who is the light of my life and the reason I get up every day and put one foot in front of the other.
I guess I'm clinging on to some hope after reading your post on this and other threads and hoping that all has worked out for you?
I'm so sorry to all who find themselves in this scary, uncertain and unnerving situation and send so much love and strength to everyone. Xxx

CB1209 · 30/04/2024 16:36

@LP2020 I’m so sorry you’re going through this, I really feel for you. I had a happy outcome! My healthy little boy is 4 months old on Saturday. Have there been any signs in the scans? Mine were always normal so it was a case of confined placental mosaicism which apparently may happen more than they realise. I’m really keeping my fingers crossed for you, it’s the toughest thing I’ve ever been through and every day I am thankful for the miracle outcome I got. Happy to talk more if you want to message me x

CMAC86 · 27/07/2024 12:59

Hi everyone, I'm sorry you're having such heartbreaking journeys. I lost my baby boy to hydrops in May and they still haven't found the cause even after the post mortem. We want to try and get pregnant again but it could happen again so it's scary. I was wondering how everyone is getting on? Any happy healthy babies arrived? I hope so.
@CB1209 I had never heard that something could be constricted to the placenta. Are you and baby ok now?
