Waiting period - feeling very depressed

I have another post on here about my high risk NT test (1 in 3 for T21) and I am completely broken right now. I have a routine midwife appointment on Friday and thinking about it absolutely devastates me. I know they plan on using the Doppler so I can hear the heartbeat but I just can’t. I know I can’t hear the heartbeat without completely breaking down. I can’t talk about this baby in any normal way until I have the NIPT results.

I'm so sorry you are going through this. I have recently been through the same and the waiting time to be honest was almost worse than getting the results and the following termination. I completely disconnected myself from the pregnancy but after reading other women's stories and chatting to a counsellor, I found out this is a very normal reaction. I stopped taking my pre natals and just couldn't allow myself to feel pregnant. Emotionally I was a mess and couldn't even leave the house, let alone go to work. It really is an awful time and I am so sorry you have found yourself here.
Is there anyway you can push the appointment back until you have the results? My midwife pushed my 16 week appointment for this reason, in the end my results took exactly 7 days to come through.
Wishing you all the luck that your results are low chance ❤️

@ONCanMum I’m so sorry. I’m in the exact same position. Consultant has told me there is something very seriously wrong in her opinion and awaiting NIPT results. Said would be today but they have not arrived yet.

im so heartbroken and angry. This was my last chance through IVF . I really feel for you and sending loads a love x

@Hellome88 Wishing you all the best as well. This is a level of anxiety and grief that I’ve never imagined before.

I will be doing both NIPT and amnio before I feel completely clear. I can’t do amnio for another two weeks though so I’m hoping NIPT comes back earlier and can give me a bit of hope.

@ONCanMum I completely understand. Apologies it’s the animo test I am awaiting for not the NIPT. They never offered me that.
sending positive thoughts and hoping you get some good news x

Hey, I’m sorry you are going through this, I know exactly how you feel as I’m currently going through the same heartbreaking thing. My baby has been given 1 in 5 chance of T21, it is absolutely devastating and I don’t know if I’ve ever cried so much before. The waiting for the NIPT results is absolute torture (I had mine done on Thursday). Just wanted to reply and send you some love. Also, about your midwife appointment, I would just reschedule, they would understand. I wouldn’t want to attend a midwife appointment either, looking at the scan was hard enough.
Sending you love and hope ❤️

@Hellome88 Will you be doing amnio as well? My counsellor said that even if NIPT comes back negative, they would still consider me high risk (1 in 300 or so) because of the original bloodwork.

@Hi1986 Oh sorry I tagged the wrong person. Will you be doing amnio as well? My counsellor said that even if NIPT comes back negative, they would still consider me high risk (1 in 300 or so) because of the original bloodwork.

@ONCanMum i didn’t really think I would if it came back low risk to be honest, I’ve just been under the impression that the NIPT is accurate enough but that’s something I’ll ask now, so thank you. I thought I would only get the amniocentesis if my results came back high risk. When did you get your NIPT blood test?

Hellome88 · 19/04/2023 07:14

@Hi1986 its only because of what’s been detected on my scan and the constant ant option that I went straight got that. I wouldn’t of done if I was low risk so completely agree with you xx

Hi1986 · 19/04/2023 07:27

@Hellome88 you are totally right and got everything crossed for you everything is ok. I would’ve done the same in your position. What a horrific time it is. Hope you get your results soon. Xx
